Tips On Pool Maintenance From A Pool Service Company Mount Royal QC

By Leslie Ball

You may find your pool getting dirty as soon as it is cleaned. Keeping it clean does not have to be such a daunting task. While pools are made of different materials, they all share one common trait which is the need for regular maintenance. No matter how many times you call in the experts, you must do a few things to ensure that it remains clean between the visits. Here are few tips shared by a pool service company Mount Royal QC.

Take a skimming basket and filter off floating debris in your facility. This is a net basket with a handle that you pass across your facility. Note that, if not removed, the debris sinks which makes it hard for you to retrieve it. Floating insects are also removed from the water surface.

The floor of your facility should be vacuumed every two weeks to keep the water clean without use of too much chemicals. The wall should be scrubbed with a brush to hinder the formation of algae and calcium. If the facility is made of fiberglass, clean it with soft bristled brush to avoid scratching.

Every time you drain the water, make sure that you clean the filter. This is because, it may have trapped sand and other large debris. This can be cleaned after every two weeks for better filtration of dirt in the facility. The filter cleaning method depends on the type of the facility.

The heater may take years without the need for repair. However, you ought to check it every ninety days. Should you find any calcium deposits, consult a heater engineer to remove it or replace the tubes.

In a warm season, more water is lost by evaporation. It can also be lost by splashing and when swimmers leave the facility. The level should regularly be monitored. If it hits the skimmer level, it should be added so as not to damage the pump.

You should also maintain the water PH level to keep it healthy. The PH scale runs between 0 and 14. An ideal PH should be between 7 and 7.8. You can use a PH test kit to measure it. If it is below 7, the water is acidic and needs alkaline solution and if above 8, it is alkaline and needs an acidic solution.

If you live in areas where temperatures go below the freezing point, there is need to ensure that the installations are not damaged by the freezing water. Freezing water can crack pump pipes and the drainage system. To prevent this, you can blow air out of the piping system by the use of a compressor. You can also use nontoxic antifreeze specifically for pools. The pump and the heater should also be disconnected.

Contaminants of the organic nature such as nitrogen and ammonia build up in a pool fast. These contaminants mix with chlorine in the facility and give a pungent smell in and around the facility. This odor is eliminated by use of super chlorinate to put chlorine at normal levels. Interestingly, adding more chlorine into the facility gets rid of the pungent smell. This is called shocking the pool. Do this once a week or once in two weeks. Consult the manual for instructions on the amount of chlorine to use.
